My kids have been 'helping' me out in the garden quite a lot for the past few days. It is so cute to see them when we discover worms and other interesting things in the garden. I certainly hope they continue loving the outdoors!Indiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14004102653896371835noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8770960028868336157.post-35781231773095681222012-09-23T21:41:13.232-04:002012-09-23T21:41:13.232-04:00Children need this! All those paths to explore, but he quickly turned back and asked to watch television. You're right - looking back my memories are almost all of being outside... of building a pond and making perfume with rose petals and picking and eating food.... the sneaky raspberry... a pod of peas... the odd leaf of mint. I was reminded of this recently when I saw one of my children grazing on a handful of chives.... not to everyone's taste, but each to their own!Sarah Shoesmithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03410745860215082568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8770960028868336157.post-76883795716290545852012-09-20T19:29:44.272-04:002012-09-20T19:29:44.272-04:00Absolutely it does...playing outside, digging in t...Absolutely it does...playing outside, digging in the dirt, smelling the flowers and picking the fruits and veggies...oh and climbing trees, playing in the creek and making forts int he woods...yep that's why I love gardening and nature. My mother was a gardener, but I was not really interested in gardening. I was, however, very interested in nature and spent a lot of time outdoors. Although I also live in a completely different climate now than I did as a child, I find that my childhood memories still give me direction when I work in my garden. I've spent a lot of time and effort on creating a private spot in my yard to mimic the privacy I found as a child.

I've got a 4-year-old daughter too so I will definitely check out this book. As a generalization, I think children don't play outside as much as in generations past. I think this would be a wonderful way for people to get them outside, into the sunshine and fresh air. Getting dirty should be fun, and a required part of growing up! I know a few moms that would love this book!
