Inappropriate Garden Tool Usage

Dear Garden Tools,

I'm sorry I have been using you in what you consider to be inappropriate ways for the last few days.  I know it's March, and that you, dear Pickaxe, expected to be breaking up garden soil...

...and instead I used you to break up icy mounds left by the plows at the end of our driveway and around the mailbox.

My dear Garden Hoe,  I know that you expected to be scooting around dirt and disturbing weeds when I pulled you out of the garage.

Instead, you were used to scoot snow off of our roof after our roof rake collapsed (probably from sheer exhaustion.)

You might consider it inappropriate to use you in such unseemly ways, but I have to say how nice it was to get reacquainted with each other again.  You probably should be appreciative, dear Garden Tools, for the way this winter is going, if I hadn't used you for the snow and ice,

you might not have seen the light of day until June.

    1. We have to laugh, or we might cry at how much snow we've gotten!

  2. I feel the same way, not until June. We have as much snow too and now it is like ice mounds. Anyway, a cute post on your reuse of garden tools. Whatever works!

    1. In some places you can see layers where it has snowed and then frozen. It's like being at the bottom of a small canyon of snow and ice :)

  3. Wow! Here in the land of almost no snow, I am stunned when I see such images. What happens when all that stuff melts? All I can imagine is yards of mud and unspeakable chores for your garden tools. Best wishes for normal gardening sometime this year.

    1. Oh, it's definitely going to be mucky! Thankfully we don't have as much clay as we did down south, so it drains a little better. My backyard is going to be a mud field for awhile, though!

    1. I certainly hope so, too! The temperatures have been rising slightly this week, so there's hope!

  5. Wow! You have so much snow and your house looks great with all the white and the pop of color with the red door. Cute post!

    1. Thanks! I need some pops of color in my life, as everything is white, white, white now. Maybe that's why everyone up here in the Northeast has brightly colored doors. :)

  6. That is a beautiful photo of your house, but my word, I bet you wish that snow would go. Here's hoping that the thaw comes soon and that the drains cope with all the water.

    1. I hope so too! Something tells me we're going to be digging more drainage trenches come spring...

    1. It's a little scary that I can't even see a small tree that I know I have in the yard. At least the plants are probably well insulated under all that snow! Oh, I can't wait for spring!

  8. Just think of it as a pre-gardening workout. Winter HAS to end! At least your beds are well watered. :o)

    1. Ha! That is true - I'm not worried about a drought, at least!

  9. Dear friend in Iceland, On the bright side, your home looks quite picturesque with all of that snow. I wish you warmer temperatures soon, but not too rapid a rise that would cause flooding. Perhaps mother nature will apologize to you and your garden tools next winter by making it kinder, gentler season. Oh wait, I'm confusing mother nature and George H.W. Bush again. Politics/snow; who can keep up?

    1. It does rather feel like Iceland here! We've recently had a couple days of warmer temperatures where it's started to melt, but it's back to freezing tomorrow.

    1. My friend from Poland told me that her mother always shoveled some of the snow off of the garden beds so that they would warm up faster, which I might do this year. Of course, we just have to get to that point where we can reach the garden beds!

  11. Oh, Indie, you would go to any lengths to get the garden tools out, wouldn't you? Our snow has started to melt at last. Happy soon-to-be spring! P. x

    1. Ha, I would do about anything to get those gardening tools out! I've started getting the greenhouse ready for seeds. I'm so ready to get a start on spring :)

  12. That isn't as bad as what I did the other day--using a garden trowel to clean out a messylitterbox:) Hoping all that snow melts soon! It's going to be 60 here today, and I am thrilled!

    1. Thankfully I've never been that desperate, ha! It was nice and warm today, and I was so very happy. It's going back to cold tomorrow, but I sure enjoyed my one day of pretending it's spring!

  13. Wow, that is so much snow! Good thing you had that garden tool. What a cute story. Soon all our garden implements will be digging in the dirt. Yay!

  14. Oh my goodness. My gardener's heart goes out to you. That's cruel and unusual punishment, to have that much snow for this long.

    1. I think so, too! Thankfully we had a pretty mild winter up until mid-January. If it was like this all winter, I would probably be driven crazy!
