An Early Spring?

Has Spring come so early to North Carolina?
February here in Raleigh:

Top: emerging leaves of Clematis 'Guernsey Cream', Dutch crocus
Middle: Treefrog, Crocus 'Ard Schenk', Johnny Jump-up

Still I think Winter has not yet conceded defeat...

this weekend's touch of frost

In the spring I have counted
one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather
inside of four and twenty hours.
-Mark Twain

Is spring emerging so early elsewhere?

    1. Thank you! I thought that quote was very apt for this weather we've been having lately!

  2. I would love to see more images of the tree frog. How do they survive the cold?

    1. Believe it or not, the Gray Treefrog (as well as a few other frogs) can actually freeze during winter and then thaw out in spring and still live. They have a special chemical that keeps the water in their bodies in a more slushy state instead of freezing solid during their hibernation state.

Though this winter it hasn't been cold enough for them to have to freeze very often here..

  3. I am hoping winter made its last hurrah this weekend. I was sad to see some of my blooms taken by the arctic spell that hit us but there are more buds on the way. Your spring blooms are so lovely. I especially like the star magnolia!

    1. I think we pretty much get the same weather here that you guys get. I had some daffodil buds freeze, though there were a lot more budding today. I hope those don't freeze as well!

  4. Springtime is lovely in your area, even when it is early. We had a robin too, the other day. He should have stayed in NC.

  5. The weather here in Upstate SC has been such a tease--70 degrees a week ago, then a drop to 20s at night this past weekend. Your blooms are lovely--love the star magnolia

    1. Thank you! I do have to admit that the star magnolia isn't really mine - it's down the street from me :) But it's so lovely to see all in blossom!

  7. Mark must have been thinking of Washington state when he wrote that. It seems like spring is here also, but then the laughing love gods or weather gods decide that winter should have its fair share and were back to the cold. I'm just hoping the plants know best and wouldnt be coming out if they weren't sure that spring is here.

    1. I sure hope that the plants know what they are doing as well! I've had some plants start to bud out, only to freeze..

    1. Thank you! The little frog surprised me while I was pruning clematis off of my porch. It was hanging on for dear life! It was so cute - I moved him gently down to the ground so I could finish the pruning.

    1. My daffodils are chomping at the bit as well! It is definitely rather early, though.. but I must say, I have been enjoying all the warm weather and early color instead of the normal dreary, cold winter!
